ABOUT THE FOUNDERS GALA
In 2013, three twice-exceptional (2e) students – gifted children with learning differences – were in desperate need of a school that would not fail them. They needed a school that would both nurture their academic gifts and provide them with support to address their special needs. They needed a school that could meet them where they were, instead of insisting that they conform to preconceived notions of what students should be. Simply put, they needed The Quad Preparatory School. So our founder, Kim Busi, and some other courageous parents created it.
Over the past five years, the need for what The Quad Prep uniquely provides has grown exponentially. Together, we’ve built both a school and a community that are nothing short of extraordinary; and our impact is felt well beyond the walls of our physical school. The Quad Prep is a leader in the field of 2e education, and with initiatives like The Certificate Program in Meeting the Needs of Twice Exceptional Children and annual conference, Breakthroughs in Twice Exceptional Education, we provide a model and tools for others to replicate our approach. We are deeply committed to continually enhancing our program for current students, expanding our school to serve more families, and providing leadership for 2e education in the broader academic community. This is just the beginning.
Our single biggest fundraising effort each year is our annual gala, and we thank you for the support you've given us this year in any way you could. Our students are as unique as they come, so this year our gala – Dare to Be Different – will celebrated their spirit and how they inspire this school to dare to be different too.
This year’s gala honored Anne Marie Albano, Ph.D., ABPP, for her pioneering work studying and treating anxiety and mood disorders in children, adolescents, and young adults. Her work has directly impacted the growth of our students and so many other children in this city and beyond. We will also honored four Quad Prep teachers and clinicians with the Founder’s Award, which recognizes a groundbreaking commitment to the education and advancement of 2e students at The Quad Prep.
